While Mr. Taft spoke on the phone, Mr. Harris took this photograph recording his expression, which changed from serious to jovial. The call came from President Theodore Roosevelt, and brought the news that Mr. Taft was the party’s nominee for US President. The folder which houses the photo bears the Harris-Ewing emblem, and the photo itself bears the embossed stamp copyright 1908 by Harris-Ewing.
