The film and TV star, Ronald Reagan, got his political stripes at the 1964 Republican National Convention with a speech he made in support of Barry Goldwater. By 1965 he was asked to run for California governor, and he defeated Edmund "Pat" Brown for that job in 1966. Brown was the guy who had embarrassed Richard Nixon in 1962 by beating a former U.S. Vice President. By 1968, Reagan was a presidential hopeful himself and also considered as a running mate with Richard Nixon. (There are several buttons which prove this). Ronnie got re-elected governor in 1970, and then he challenged sitting president, Gerald Ford for the 1976 Republican Presidential Nomination, and almost got it, too. But Ford lost to Jimmy Carter that year and in 1980, Reagan did get nominated and then it was full steam ahead defeating Carter in a big win that fall. Then he won by an even greater landslide for re-election in 1984 against Walter Mondale. Here's a popular 3" cello from that early 1976 presidential attempt, which bears a reminder that the campaign was held during this country's 200th birthday. It is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. S & H on this will be $5.50 sent well-protected first class with tracking.
