*SALE* C.1850 Tintype of Harmon F. Van Buren; relation of 8th President.
Pictured is a piece of early photographic history and U.S. genealogical/historical relevance. You are looking at Harmon F. Van Buren (1775-1858); a strong candidate to be a relation to Martin Van Buren; our 8th President of the U.S. On the back of the frame , scrawled in pencil reads (see last photo, it is enhanced to show the pencil): "Harmon F. Van Buren, born at Kinderhook, Mar. 29, 1775, died at Mayfield,NY Sept. 30, 1858". Martin Van Buren was also born in Kinderhook, N.Y. ; a prevalent Dutch community back in the 18th century ; about 20 miles south of Albany. N.Y; **so a strong case could be made that these two "Van Burens" were related given they were born only 7 years apart in the same town with the same last name. The photo must have been produced during the 1850's and measures 5 1/8" x 4 3/8" (I am measuring the back where the photo is inserted into the frame), and the frame measures 10 1/2" x 10". The frame has some issues although I have to remind myself that it's around 165 years old. This would be a great addition to a Van Buren family museum or historical collection.
