Ronald Reagan Political Art Memorabilia 1980 RNC Giant Foam Head Republican
This is an original Ronald Regan foam head that was from the 1980 Republican National Convention, when Reagan won the nomination for President of the United States. These were used at the convention and as you can see, the bottom was bored out so it could be put on a stick and waved by the crowd. It is very large in stature, measuring nearly 3 feet high. I am not sure how many of these have survived, and they rarely come up for sale. Over the years President Ronald Reagan has taken on even more a mythological status as the bedrock of the modern Republican Party and its values. This piece is an attractive, eye-catching piece of political history and art to be appreciated, displayed, debated, and treasured. The condition shows signs of wear around the edges in particular. The early-1980s foam core is very sensitive and I try to handle it as little as possible. I took it out of the clear bagging I keep it in (on a high shelf) for the photos and put it back in. That said it remains structurally intact, and there are no galling defects that take away from its presentation value. And where are you going to find another one? Finally, as you can see in the background of my photographs, I am a high school American history and government teacher and this is one of many political artifacts I have on display in my classroom. The sale of this item will go towards funding more classroom materials and resources for my students. I love having it as a discussion piece in class, but if it can be of value to someone else and pay for a lot of good for some students, then the sale is worth it to me. Aside from that, it is so delicate that I'm kind of afraid of it and would rather pass it along to someone else before something bad happens to old Ron! Thanks for your consideration on this item.
