JOHN ADAMS. Late 18th century flintlock pistol saddle holsters personally owned and used by John Adams (1735-1826). Consists of a leather construction with a non-clasp flap closure and cylinder metal base, each measures 13.5 by 5.25 by 1.875 inches, and contains wearing from use and age. REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA FLINTLOCK PISTOL SADDLE HOLSTERS PERSONALLY OWNED AND USED BY JOHN ADAMS Accompanied with a December 11, 1933 letter of authenticity acknowledging the holsters were housed inside the Adams’ home, are from the Revolutionary War era, and were acquired directly from Adams’ great-grandson, Brooks Adams (1848-1927), who was the last to live in the family home: “The holsters were given to me by Brooks of the Quincy Adams house in Mass. I was visiting there. They & the hand made holsters & bulbs were in the store rooms. They are Revolutionary style & undoubtedly handed down in the Adams family & abandoned because of the piece cut out which made them rather damaged.” The Adams house in Quincy, Massachusetts was the home to John and Abigail Adams (1744-1818) and John Quincy (1767-1848) and Louisa Adams (1775-1852) and later became a museum with the Adams National Historical Park after Brooks Adams’ death. ACCOMPANIED WITH A DECEMBER 11, 1933 LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY ACKNOWLEDGING THE HOLSTERS WERE HOUSED INSIDE THE ADAMS’ HOME AND ACQUIRED DIRECTLY FROM ADAMS’ GREAT-GRANDSON, BROOKS ADAMS Personal possessions belonging to John Adams are excessively rare and virtually unobtainable and typically command five to six figures at auction.
