ORIGINAL - DANIEL WEBSTER COLOR ENGRAVING by C.E.WAGSTAFF & JOS. ANDREWS FRAMED 1852 Engraved by C.E.WAGSTAFF & JOS. ANDREWS. A full-length and richly engraved portrait of Daniel B. Webster, after a painting by Thomas B. Lawson. Webster is standing, resting his right hand on a law book, a nod to his prowess as the most prominent Lawyer of the 19th century and knowledge. A pen and paper book on a table, evidence of a lawyer. A marble bust of George Washington a sign of his allegiance to United States and tradition. The background is formed by stone alcove, with elegantly draped curtains. A marble floor, formal table, and a window view of the Capitol building in Washington D.C. before the dome was completed in 1866. The print is titled with a facsimile of Webster's signature in the lower right margin. Daniel Webster (January 18, 1782 – October 24, 1852) was an American lawyer and statesman who represented New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the U.S. Congress and served as the 14th and 19th U.S. Secretary of State under Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore. Webster was one of the most prominent American lawyers of the 19th century, arguing over 200 cases before the United States Supreme Court in his career. During his life, Webster had been a member of the Federalist Party, the National Republican Party, and the Whig Party. He was among the three members of the Great Triumvirate along with Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun. The likeness of Webster is derived from Thomas B. Lawson's painted portrait. NICE OLD PATINA. RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL WAVY GLASS. HARDWOOD FRAME WITH PAINTED PLASTER FILAGREE AND A VERY SMALL EDGE CHIP ON RIGHT LOWER FRONT 1/2" x 1".
