Orig Antique Stipple Engraving, 1855 - BUST OF GEORGE WASHINGTON by G. Ceracchi
Original Antique Matted Stipple Engraving - Bust of George Washington Engraved by Henry Bryan Hall, 1855, from the original sculpture by Giuseppe Ceracchi, 1795 Quite a rare print. It was engraved by Hall as an illustration in Washington Irving's five volume set "The Life of George Washington". The bust was sculpted from life by the Italian Sculptor in 1795. He depicted Washington as a Roman Emperor which at the time, was not particularly appreciated by the President. After passing through the hands of several owners throughout the years, it was eventually bequeathed to the Metropolitan Museum in New York and is displayed there in the American Wing. I've matted the print in an antique white acid-free mat, and both mat and print are in excellent condition. The image size is: 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" The paper size is 5-1/2" x 9" The mat size is 8" x 10" (a stock size) NOTE: I cut an extra window in the mat to show the print details ... not sure now that that was a good idea. If you want to buy the print but the mat turns you off, I'll redo the mat for you without the extra window. ________________________________Inv. No. 1749 We have several more Washington prints in our store, as well as a large selection of interestingprints, photos, documents and original art. Please visit. Browse our Store
