Click image to enlarge Description Judith Leiber Archived 1981 Nancy Reagans Purse for Inaugural Ball Only 2 EXIST   This is a MUST-Have for ANY SAVVY Handbag Collector or Collector of Reagan Memorabilia!   This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own not only one of two handbags made by famous designer Judith Leiber, for Nancy Reagon for this historic event, but to own a piece of history where the only other handbag is in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History at Behring Center! This truly is an artifact to be cherished and handed down for generations. A Picture of the actual purse at the Smithsonian is included in this listing. This minaudier handbag is one of two made by famous designer Judith Leiber for First Lady Nancy Reagan for the 1981 Presidential Inaugural Ball.  This is Haute Couture at its finest. When you have not only the whole country watching this historical event but also the whole world, no detail nor expense would be overlooked.  This handbag was created with the highest quality of satin material, hardware, and Swarovski crystals.  The outside of the minaudier handbag is an Ivory Satin with Swarovski Crystals beautifully placed on the Faux Ivory handle/closure. An elegant twisted double-chord tassel shoulder strap can be attached with its shiny gold-tone toggles. Both sides of the handbag have a hidden side seam pocket. Inside is lined with Ivory Satin and there is a small seam pocket under the gold-tone metal label engraved "Judith Leiber" "New York".  This wouldn't be a Judith Leiber purse if it didn't come with her signature double-sided mirror, tassel comb, and a coin purse with matching dust bags for the handbag and the mirror.   Also, included inside the handbag is the Judith Leiber COA/Product Registration Card with serial number 39772, and a Judith Leiber “Tag” written in red pen Style "N. Reagan Material "Satin" Pattern "Ivory" and Suggested Retail  “0”.  Found in the bag was also a piece of paper typed with IL2005.4.7 Judith Leiiber LLC, Purse Ivory satin bag with faux ivory for Nancy Reagan.   Providence of Purse Judith Leiber had this handbag in her Personal Archived Collection. The actual purse "First Lady Nancy Reagan" used at the Inaugural Ball is now displayed at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History at Behring Center. I've included in the pictures the one on display.   Judith Leiber was known for her one-of-a-kind handbags made for the First Ladies Inauguration and Inauguration Ball. In 1953, throngs of guests and reporters turned out to see the Judith Leiber bag carried by Maimie Eisenhower at her husband's inauguration; every first lady since Nancy Reagan has carried one.   I personally acquired this handbag at a Heritage Auction when they were selling Judith Leiber's Personal Archived Collection and other Judith Leiber Handbags. At the time of the auction and purchase, it was not known the historic significance. It was being sold just as a "Judith Leiber" handbag. It wasn't until I went through the purse this past year  I discovered the information inside. When contacting my person at Heritage Auction to find out more,  I was told that Judith Leiber's Archived collection going to auction was so massive, including some that were one-of-a-kinds, and limited editions, that this one slipped through the cracks. No one from the Leiber Archive informed them regarding this handbag and may not have even known it was in Ms. Leiber's possession since all the First Ladies Inaugural Purses she made are "One-of-a-kind".  Without having knowledge of this handbag and because Heritage Auction had so many purses to log and inventory, no one paid attention or looked in great detail at all the paperwork in each handbag.   I can only speculate since we will never know why Ms. Leiber had this with the Archived Collection since the purses are "one-of-a-kind" never reproduced or sold, that this may have been either a mock-up for Ms. Reagan's approval or since I noticed what looks like a glue stain near the strap attachment, she made another one since it needed to be perfect! Again this is just me speculating. Ms. Leiber DID make a replacement handbag for Ms. Reagan after the 2nd inauguration because it got stained at the ball. Both of those handbags went up for auction, one at Heritage Auction and the other at Christie's Auction. Ms. Reagan donated her handbag, dress, and shoes from the 1st inauguration to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History at Behring Center Please feel free to contact me with any questions or request more pictures.  This item will only be shipped fully insured either priority or express priority.  Please see the pictures since they are part of the description and show the condition of the handbag and included items.    Pictures sell!
