ANTIQUE O'NEILL RARE ORIGINAL LINCOLN STEEL ENGRAVED PRINTING PLATE 13"X16 3/4"!
I am extremely excited to offer this RARE and UNUSUAL piece of American history!!! I've been commissioned by the current owner (David Donaghy) who is the nephew of the original owner to allow this magnificent piece to be made available to the public. This historical steel engraved printing plate by the renowned Lincoln artist, John A. O'Neill (1837-1892), features a youthful portrait of Abraham Lincoln painted in 1860. This original plate measures 13" x 16 3/4". The plate comes with a bill of sale from J.O. Wright & Co. sold to H. J. Donaghy dating back to February 15, 1909 in the amount of $50 (which is worth $1,733.48 by today's standards). According to the James Donaghy family, the included green "For Sale" sign was on the Donaghy building which used this printing plate for posters and newspapers. If you touch the plate, you can feel the raised texture of Lincoln's necktie, suit jacket, vest, hair and beard; giving the resulting image a raised relief. The plate weighs approximately 5.5 lbs. NOTE: In the close up pictures you can see the word "Lincoln" located on the bottom front of the plate as well as (Flynn and Donaghy - N.Y. (both engraved in reverse)! The first image is an original oil painting by John O'Neill. This printing plate was produced using this image! Additionally, on the back of the plate are the words "J Cail NY" - presumably the manufacturer of the plate. Add this original fantastic piece of Americana to your Civil War/Memorabilia collection!! THINK GIFT!!
