1963 JOHN F KENNEDY Assassination JFK Mourning Card - I received from Jackie K
I was 11 years old the day John F Kennedy was assassinated. I remember it as if it were yesterday. Our teacher burst into the room that Friday and announced, "The President's been shot!!". It scared us more than anyone nowadays can imagine. We were sent home. When I came through the front door, I found my little Sister sitting on the floor of the front hall coat closet sobbing. I'll never forget the looks on my Parents face. They were ashen white and obviously scared as hell too. Later that night I saw my Mom through her nearly-closed bedroom door, sitting on the edge of my Parents bed softly crying. Though I didn't know it then, that day changed the world I was to grow up in much the way 9/11 did 17 years ago. Later while watching the funeral possession on TV and seeing John John salute his Father's casket I burst into tears myself. I asked my Mom what I could do to help the Kennedy Family. She suggested I write Mrs Kennedy a letter and tell her how much we feel for her and her family. I did that. And more. Being a budding songwriter I also wrote her a song "The President Kennedy March" on my accordion. I sent them both to her and this was the reply I received. Not knowing what a "form letter" was at that age, I was so moved and impressed to receive this"personal note" from the 1st Lady. I've kept this card in my personal keepsakes and somewhere along the line, it got stepped on (probably by my little Brother snooping through my stuff!) Even all these years later, I still get choked up when I hold this in my hand. It's time to let it go. . . I accept PayPal and Shipping to the Lower 48 States is FREE!
