In 1962, California Governor Pat Brown was running for re-election vs Richard M. Nixon. President John F. Kennedy agreed to attend a rally held in Los Angeles to help Brown's re-election campaign, also no doubt meant as an early second term campaign stop for the young President. Kennedy's appearance was cancelled as the Cuban Missile Crisis required Kennedy's full attention. As tensions continued to rise, the nation - and the world - waited as Kennedy, Khrushchev and Castro negotiated and threatened each other. Despite the cancellation, Brown was re-elected for another term as the California Governor.
