1950's-'60's Gerald Ford Jr 5th District Michigan Congressional Postcard #3 Horz
Here's a 3.5" x 5.5" postcard from when Gerald Rudolph Ford was in the U.S. House of Representatives, likely taken in the late 1950's or early 1960's. This is one of those early career items which political collectors are beginning to greatly appreciate. With a presidency that will probably be considered a fluke of history, he's the only person who became president - besides George Washington's in his first term, for whom the public didn't vote on a ballot during a presidential election. That's why critics called him the "appointed" president, which he obviously was. But he served an important, historical role during that Watergate-infested time. With his pardon of Richard Nixon and helping end our long, national nightmare, (his words), he caught flak for the pardon then, but now historians realize he was very much right to do what he did. If that pardon helped him lose re-election in 1976 in a real squeaker with Jimmy Carter, historians, now and long into the future, will give him true credit for that extremely gutsy call. Too bad we no longer have politicians who have guts enough to do what's best for the country-damn the consequences. We are also listing an example of these postcards with very interesting back printing in a similar, horizontal image, and one that's vertical. This is in nice condition but please enlarge our images to judge that for yourself so you can be happy with it. Remember, this stuff's called ephemera, folks, since it was made to be used and then discarded. So we're just lucky to have things like this in any condition to add to our collections. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases. Shipping on this will be $5.50 with tracking. 6537 We returned from the northeastern part of the U.S. where we purchased another top-notch political postcard collection from a life-long specialist and friend. PLUS we're still selling out of the collection of our mid-west friend! Since many of their cards are duplicates of our own, we feel it is important to offer them back into the collector market, so that others continue having the fun of discovery and pride of ownership that we three have experienced over the decades. Hopefully you can find a gem or two to add to your own collection, so check our eBay store over time for this great opportunity for adding to your collection.
