1923 Pres Harding Making a Speech at Butte, MT Stereo Card He Died On This Trip
In 1923, President Warren G. Harding started to feel the heat in Washington, D.C., politically over Teapot Dome issues as well as by the mean temperature. So he and his wife and various cabinet members planned an extensive trip to take his and the press's minds off problems. A set of stereo view cards was the result which have become desirable among collectors since it shows so many interesting snapshots of people, places and things he experienced. The party headed out west across the plains then clear up to Alaska and back down through Washington, Oregon to California, where Harding died on August 2 at a hotel in San Francisco, shocking the nation. This Keystone View Company card shows the president on a platform making a speech to a big crowd at Butte, Montana.
