In 1923, President Warren G. Harding started to feel the heat in Washington, D.C., politically over Teapot Dome issues as well as by the mean temperature. So he and his wife and various cabinet members planned an extensive trip to take his and the press's minds off problems. A set of stereo view cards was the result which have become desirable among collectors since it shows so many interesting snapshots of people, places and things he experienced. The party headed out west across the plains then clear up to Alaska and back down through Washington, Oregon to California, where Harding died on August 2 at a hotel in San Francisco, shocking the nation. This Keystone View Company card shows the president and travelling party standing around with Mr. Charles Becker at the Oregon Trail at Meachem, Oregon. He was a Pony Express rider, still alive in 1923, who had carried the news of Abraham Lincoln's election and Harding is reading that document. This is one of four stereo cards we are listing at this time which contain photos taken there of the president. This is in nice condition but please enlarge our image to judge this for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases.
