Fine large photograph by Harris & Ewing of Washington of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962). She was First Lady between 1933-1944 during her husband's presidency. She was a great advocate for civil rights, and even after her husband died in 1945 she continued to be an internationally acclaimed author, speaker, politician and activist. President Truman appointed her as a delegate to the UN General Assembly between 1945-1952 and she chaired the committee that drafted and approved the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - Truman called her the First Lady of the World in tribute to her human rights activities.
