This listing is for an INCREDIBLY RARE ORIGINAL typed letter on United States House of Representatives letterhead, dated May 21, 1954, which has been signed beautifully at the conclusion by former U.S. Representative from Texas, Homer Thornberry, now deceased. William Homer Thornberry (January 9, 1909 – December 12, 1995) served as the United States representative from the 10th congressional district of Texas from 1949 until 1963. From 1963 until 1965 he was a judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, and he was a judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit from 1965 until 1978. Thornberry was riding in the fateful motorcade in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963 when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. He was riding a few cars behind JFK's Presidential limousine in the first congressman car. The other passengers in his car, besides the driver, were fellow congressmen from Texas, George Mahon and Walter Rogers, as well as Personal Assistant to JFK, Larry O'Brien. Following the shooting, he accompanied the motorcade to Parkland Memorial Hospital and, upon the announcement of JFK's death, traveled with Lyndon B. Johnson to Dallas Love Field where he was sworn in as the 36th President aboard Air Force One. Thornberry can be seen standing behind LBJ in the famous Cecil Stoughton photo of the swearing in at Dallas Love Field. THORNBERRY’S AUTOGRAPH IS INCREDIBLY RARE! I HAVE ATTACHED TO THE LISTING, FOR REFERENCE ONLY, AN IMAGE OF THORNBERRY AS WELL AS AN IMAGE OF THE FAMOUS CECIL STOUGHTON PHOTO OF THE LBJ SWEAR IN AT DALLAS LOVE FIELD FOLLOWING THE ASSASSINATION. THORNBERRY (RED ARROW) CAN BE SEEN STANDING BEHIND LBJ. Professional and secure USPS shipping is FREE! Thanks for checking out my listing!
