This is in excess of the final value fee for selling the item. All said, when we charge $5.00 to ship a small item, we are most likely losing twenty or thirty cents. We ship only within the United States. The problem for us with foreign shipping is that insurance is often not available. When it is available it is expensive. E-bay no longer allows its sellers to charge for insurance. Many sellers have simply raised their shipping charges to cover the cost of insurance. That is not an option with foreign shipping because in order to obtain insurance you have to ship using an upgraded shipping service. The cost is often ten times the cost of US shipping. If an item is lost, and is not insured, all the buyer has to do is request a refund and far more often than not, they will get their money back. Also, foreign shipping requires customs forms.
