This 1973 President Richard Nixon Vice President Spirow Agnew First Ladies Pat & Inaugural Ball Invitation and Envelope is the exact item you will receive and has been certified Authentic by REM Fine Collectibles. Ever since George Washington took the oath of office as the nation’s first president, fellow countrymen have turned out on the dance floor to celebrate. But the inaugural ball wasn’t always a thing. The first one was held in 1809, for James Madison, but the balls have come and gone, depending on the times and the incoming president. One thing has held true: in general, the ball, or balls, have been vehicles for well-heeled and ardent supporters to express their joy for the new office-holder. The second inauguration of Richard Nixon as president of the United States was held on Saturday, January 20, 1973, at the East Portico of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. This was the 47th inauguration and marked the commencement of the second and final term of both Richard Nixon as president and Spiro Agnew as vice president. This made Nixon the first and, as of 2024, only person to be inaugurated four times as both president and vice president. Chief Justice Warren E. Burger administered both the presidential and vice presidential oaths of office. During the ceremony, Look With Pride On Our Flag, a song dedicated to President Nixon and composed by Hank Fort, was played. The inaugural theme was "The Spirit of '76". The 1973 Inaugural Committee's chairman was J. Willard Marriott.
