1988 James and Dolley Madison Calendar Bronze Medal
Beautiful bronze medal for the Madison Hotel, in Washington D.C., named after the President and First Lady, Dolley. Opened in February 1963 and has hosted every President since then, The Madison was address of choice for visiting celebrities and dignitaries, officially opened by JFK when he was the Guest of Honor opening day. Renovated in 2012, it includes some subtle nods to Dolley Madison in the design, including a feature wall that mirrors the crackling of a painting, for the works the First Lady saved from the White House fire, a glass partition that features the pattern on Dolley's fine china, a mirror with parrot and ice cream cone designs for Dolley's pet and favorite desert, along with Lady M cocktail lounge. James Madison was our 4th President, from 1809-1817 (two terms) and made a major contribution to ratification of Constitution by writing the Federalist Papers, along with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay. In later years he was referred to as "Father of the Constitution". This is a 1988 bronze calendar medallion made especially for Madison Hotels by Medallic Art Co. It measures approx 3" in diameter and is over 8 ounces in weight. Obverse features raised portraits in high relief of both James Madison and Dolley Madison with their names and the iconic M in the center; Reverse features 1988 calendar with date 1989; Rim reads "Made especially for the Madison Hotel" and 1988 Maco Bronze"
