[US PRESIDENTS, JAMES BUCHANAN, CIVIL WAR] On offer is an original US partially printed & manuscript land grant for Jersey County, Illinois issued by President James Buchanan in 1857. The signature is almost certainly a secretarial (based on observed exemplars and the manner in which its signed w/ his secretary signing directly beneath his name) signature but is nonetheless an interesting and authentic period document having possible interest to a local historian or collector. Were the Buchanan signature that of the President himself, the price would easily be 7x -10x that offered here. The document bears the correct embossed seal and measures 10 in x 15.75 in.
