Kennedy who appears in class and yearbook staff photos. Great condition of this scarce old issue from a small school. See enlarged photos. John F. Kennedy often referred to by the initials JFK and Jack, was an American politician who served as the 35th president of the United States from January 1961 until his assassination in November, 1963. He was born Brookline Massachusetts, graduated from the Choate School and Harvard University, before joining the U.S. Naval Reserve the following year. During World War II, he commanded a series of PT boats in the Pacific and earned the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his service. After the war, Kennedy represented the 11th congressional district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953. He was subsequently elected to the U.S. Senate and served Massachusetts from 1953 to 1960. While in the Senate, Kennedy published his book Profiles in Courage, which won a Pulitzer Prize. In the 1960 presidential election, he defeated Republican candidate Richard Nixon. Domestically, Kennedy unveiled sweeping civil rights legislation, promising the right to vote for all citizens, and the elimination of legal discrimination in public places. He presided over the establishment of the Peace Corps and the augmentation of the Apollo space program, and he proposed federal funding for education, medical care for the elderly, and economic aid to rural regions. He also made a substantial tax cut on the upper bracket of the rich from 91% down to 70%. He was unpopular with the oil companies when he announced he would remove the "oil depletion allowance" tax benefit. After Kennedy's death, Congress enacted many of his proposals, including the Civil Rights Act and the Revenue Act. Internationally. Kennedy was concerned with the long-term dangers of nuclear weapon proliferation he agreed with Russian President Khrushchev to negotiate a nuclear test ban treaty. Kennedy was in conflict with the CIA over its plan to invade Cuba, known as the Bay of Pigs invasion. In October 1962, he helped thwart nuclear warfare over the Cuban Missile Crisis. On November 22, 1963, he was assassinated in Dallas Texas. Vice President Lyndon Johnson assumed office. Controversies over his death include speculations about the CIA, Oil Companies, and the lone shooter theory involving Lee Harvey Oswald (later killed by Jack Ruby). The FBI and Warren Commission said Oswald acted alone, but further study indicates a possible conspiracy. Kennedy ranks highly in polls of U.S. presidents with historians and the general public. Like his contemporary, Martin Luther King, Kennedy's speeches, including his iconic inaugural address, are considered of the best made by a U.S. public figure. To date, he is the only Catholic U.S. president. . Very Good Condition with tight binding and text and clean pages, with no must or mildew or smoke effects, with mild shelf wear. Clean and Solid.
