Vernon Kilns U.S. Presidential Gallery George Washington to Harry S Truman 1945 sepia brown with ultra rim style 10.5in commemorative collectors plate UNITED STATES PRESIDENTIAL GALLERY COMMEMORATIVE PLATE 1945: From George Washington to Harry S. Truman 10 3/8" Diameter Made by Vernon Kilns California Pottery, Los Angeles Circa: 1945 This is a tremendous, vintage U.S. Presidential Gallery 1945 Washington to Truman commemorative collector's plate by Vernon Kilns California Pottery. The highly desirable, sepia brown on white transfer plate depicts George Washington in the center surrounded by smaller images of all the other Presidents up to the then current Harry S. Truman 1945. The back of the plate depicts the Flying Screaming Eagle and the wording: "Our Presidential Gallery. Vernon Kilns. U.S.A." Very, very brief background on Vernon Kilns. According to Bill Stern (2001), Vernon Kilns (Los Angeles) was one of the well known "Big Five" of the Southern California Pottery group (p. 42, California Pottery: From Missions to Modernism). Vernon Kilns made plates featuring a wide variety of cities, states, sites, people, organizations, and events. Vernon Kilns closed its doors in the 1950s. This plate is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. There is a very small pin-head size glaze bubble between Millard Fillmore and Franklin Pierce from manufacturing (please see photos below). It is of virtually no consequence.
