There are few things that will rock this country and bring Americans together more than when our president is assassinated. Just ask one of your older family members about their memories about when John F. Kennedy died. Most of them will now tell you that they never have gotten over it. Back in September of 1901, just a few months after being sworn in for his re-election, President William McKinley was shaking hands with the public in the receiving line of the Temple of Music at the Pan American World's Fair in Buffalo, New York. A nut with a wrapped-up hand walked up to the president and fired a pistol through his bandages and McKinley collapsed. He was taken to a prominent citizen's home, poked and prodded by doctors trying to locate the bullet lodged in him, and he died a few days later from his wounds. This 7/8" cello button with a sepia portrait rimmed in black was made for grieving citizens to wear in honor of their fallen Chief Executive as the country dealt with his body travelling across the eastern U.S. and back to his home in Canton, Ohio for burial. It looks like stamped in its back is "Penn Button Works Phila". It is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. Shipping on it will be $5.50 sent well-protected, first class with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. And we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we don't. We just give you a refund for any overpayment. 3901
