Here's a 3" x 4 7/8" trade card showing President Grover Cleveland and First Lady Frances Folsom Cleveland. If you aren't familiar with their story, young Stephen Grover Cleveland had a law partnership with Frances's father. After he was killed in a carriage accident in 1875, Cleveland became executor of his friend's estate, guiding young Frances along the way over the years. After she had gone to school and, after he had been elected U.S. president in 1884, the bachelor chief executive surprised everyone by expressing his desire to marry her when she became of age. So, on June 2, 1886, 21-year-old Frances married 49-year-old Grover in the Blue Room of the White House and soon was the darling of the country. And it didn't hurt that she was a knock-out to look at. When kids came along, including the famous "Baby Ruth" of candy bar fame she, as First Lady, was even more endeared by the country than the president, who had many troubles during his second, non-consecutive term in office which ended in March of 1897. We have another one of these trade cards with this happy couple on it, advertising Merrick Threads, our item 275756871178. This is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. S & H on this will be $5.50 sent well-protected first class with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence, and we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we won't. We just issue a refund for any overpayment.
