Shortly after William McKinley was sworn in for the second time on March 4, 1901, he and his wife, Ida left by train on a western trip of discovery across the south and southwest to California and back, which was supposed to culminate in mid-June with a visit to the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. How the world might have drastically changed if they had only stuck to that itinerary. But the First Lady had had many health issues since the 1880's with some developments and/or problems occurring on this trip, causing changes to be made, speeches to be cancelled and the like. They came back to Washington early to rest her, and went home to Canton, Ohio for a two-month time, and then the President made that fateful trip to the World's Fair in mid-September, where he was assassinated and Vice-President Theodore Roosevelt finished most of that second term. A bunch of stereo view cards were produced showing the events of the presidential trip, including this Underwood and Underwood card of McKinley on the balcony of the Casa Loma Hotel in Redlands, California, addressing a large crowd. We're listing several different views from his trip at this time. This is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge this for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we won't. We just issue a refund for any overpayment. Shipping on this will be $6.50 carefully packed with tracking in a small box. 9535
