Andrew Jackson Signed and Framed Presidential Land Grant – Dated 1829 This historic Presidential Land Grant, signed by Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States, is an exceptional collectible from 1829. Countersigned by Elijah Hayward, Commissioner of the U.S. General Land Office, this vellum document (certificate number 11255) grants public land to Samuel Holliday of Hamilton County, Indiana, dated December 2, 1830. The grant is sealed with the Land Office’s official seal and features Jackson’s signature, marking it as one of the final land grants personally signed by President Jackson, who continued to do so until 1833. By that time, the practice had become so onerous that he entrusted the chore to clerks. Issues of granting land would eventually haunt Jackson, because the excessive speculation and abuses associated with it during his two terms, resulted in Jackson's Specie Circular in 1837. The circular required government agencies to accept only gold and silver for payment for public lands. The order shocked the Western states because speculators there had been buying land with "cheap" paper money. The circular ended land speculation, but inflationary conditions at the end of Jackson's presidency brought on the economic panic that struck shortly before his term ended. Key Features: Signed by President Andrew Jackson and countersigned by Elijah Hayward Land Grant on vellum, featuring the original official Land Office seal Certificate number 11255, dated December 2, 1830 Professionally framed in a premier display for showcasing and presentation Condition: Great vintage condition, with visible signs of age including a few micro holes at the folds and a tiny corner tear at the lower left corner. The printed black ink and signatures are both well preserved and remain prominently visible. Item Dimensions: Land Grant: 15.75" W x 8.5" H Framed Land Grant: 29.5" W x 23.25" H Item Location: Collectors Crossroads - WIC0183 Andrew Jackson Signed and Framed Presidential Land Grant – Dated 1829 This historic Presidential Land Grant, signed by Andrew Jackson, the 7th President of the United States, is an exceptional collectible from 1829.
