Printed on the official stationery of the Governor, the formal letter of introduction was written on behalf of a Reagan staff member and her husband. The letter is dated October 1969 and is boldly signed by Ronald Reagan in black ink. The letter has been engrossed with the Seal of the State of California in gold foil with ceremonial ribbon. Reagan reserved such personal letters for those closest to him and this letter was intended as a formal introduction to a key staffer and her husband as they traveled abroad. The letter secured entrance to Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Versailles, and the Vatican, and resulted in audiences with the Pope and other key officials. The letter and the affixed Seal are in excellent vintage condition. It has not been folded, and has no rips, tears or holes. The signature is bold and crisp and the letter reveals an official watermark when held up to light. The back does feature some tape marks, as shown, but overall the letter is in extraordinary vintage condition and has been remarkably well preserved for more than 50 years. A truly unique and personal memento of the then Governor of the State of California who would go on to become one of the celebrated and respected Presidents of all time.
