President John Tyler 1841 Inaugural Campaign Token William Harrison 1840 Whig BU
This is the only known version of a campaign token that mentions president John Tyler (on the "come it Tyler"), the accidental president. Campaign memorabilia representing John Tyler or really any memorabilia featuring John Tyler is super-rare to virtually non-existent. He did not seek re-election in 1844, even though he was considered to have been an excellent president. Holed for suspension this token coin is in great condition. Beleive it or not, this isn't the first presidential inaugural coin. That honor would go to Andrew Jackson in 1833 as far as I've seen. I've seen an 1824 Jackson campaign pendant "hero of New Orleans", but the first "true" campaign pendants, pins, buttons or medals as we know them (with the candidate name and the year), came from the Harrison campaign of 1840. In fact, the whigs had been minting anti-Jackson protest coins since 1832. Log cabin coat buttons and medals were given to crowds all across the country in this first grassroots "stump" campaign of 1840. At least 8 varieties of medals were made with Harrison's name and the election year. So little remains of the original campaign buttons, pendants and coins before the emergence of celluloid pins in the 1896 election, that this type of campaign material is not widely collected and is still able to be obtained at a reasonable price. Don't wait for another opportunity to expand your political pin collection, get as many of these pre-1896 presidential campaign medals you can before the growing political pin collecting population drives up the prices to unobtainable levels. The Franklin Mint coin is included with this original 1841 William H Harrison pendant medal because it would go well with it in a display. Shipped with USPS First Class. Satisfaction guaranteed with 14 day no questions return policy. Authenticity guaranteed forever
