Rare Great Seal US National Remembrance Shop Washington D.C. T&V Limoges France
Offering this striking little lidded piece of Tressemann and Vogt Limoges china decorated with the Great Seal of the United States. The piece is decorated with ornate and detailed stenciling in color and in gold. It is marked "The National Remembrance Shop, Washington D. C."The National Remembrance Shop existed from the 19th century until about 1924,meaning that this little treasure is at least 99 years old.Quote from 1903 ad:“EVERYONE visiting Washington desires to take away something as a remembrance of the visit to the nation's Capital, or as a gift for the friends at home. It is the aim of the National Remembrance Shop to supply such things that shall have also some artistic merit. Here are sold wares of gold, silver, wood, china, leather. Pictures. Books of Views and all sorts of things suitable as souvenirs or gifts. The prices are reasonable; the goods are well made and serviceable, and withal pleasing to the eye, even the most inexpensive articles (and there are many such) being of a character to appeal to persons of cultivated taste. The Remembrance Shop is unique in its furnishings and general character, and on its tables are shown many odd things not to be found elsewhere. You are cordially invited to inspect the articles shown here. All visitors are equally welcome, whether purchasers or not. No one is ever urged to buy.” I haven't been able to find anything else like it online.It is in very good to excellent condition. For whatever reason, the lid does not fit completely flush with the piece and there is a tiny permanent dark brown spot on the lid (see the highly magnified last photo.)It's about 2.75" tall with the lid on, and 2" in diameter.
