1898 Span Am War Postal Envelope Teddy Roosevelt & Buffalo Part of Wartime Set
This is a 6" x 3.5" paper envelope from the Spanish American War era which is part of a set rendered picturing American war heroes and President McKinley. This example has Theodore Roosevelt the way he looked at the beginning of those events while he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy. That was before he rounded up a bunch of rich friends and college chums, cowboys and western ruffians to form his famous volunteer unit called The Rough Riders and became a hero of that conflict. Since TR had also been a rancher out in North Dakota after his first wife, Alice Hathaway Lee had died on Valentine's Day, 1884, the artist has him trying to lasso a buffalo, something we would not recommend no matter on how big and how fast of a horse you might be seated upon. This has the name of Fred Wilder of Wardsboro Center, Vermont on it in period ink. Perhaps you or someone you know may be related to him! It is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge this for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we don't. We do so by issuing a refund for any overpayment. Shipping on this will be $5.50, carefully packed with tracking, rolled in a tube. 8338
