1876 Abraham Lincoln Anniversary Trade Card - Julius Francis Buffalo New York
You are bidding on the above pictured 1876 Abraham Lincoln Birthday Anniversary card issued by Julius Francis of Buffalo, New York. Measures approximately 4" x 2.375".I found this on the internet regarding Julius Francis and the anniversary cards -This is an original and Scarce Abraham Lincoln 67th Anniversary Abraham Lincoln card dated 1876. This is one of a series of beautifully designed cards by Julius Francis of Buffalo. Francis was a successful drug store owner in New York he became obsessed with Abraham Lincoln after his assassination. He was one of the earliest serious collectors of Lincoln memorabilia. In the years after President Lincoln's death he designed these cards to observe the birthday of Lincoln (although he called them anniversaries). He was also known for his numerous self-funded attempts to get Lincoln's birthday declared an American holiday. The cards were printed by Cosack & Co., Buffalo, New York. The last time we saw one of these cards was probably twenty years ago. This particular card features an ornate drawing with the wording "Sixty-Seventh Anniversary Abraham Lincoln" The date, February 12th 1876 and the slogan "with malice toward non, With charity for all" surrounding it." Inside the design of the eagle and shield are several areas of text including one which states "Dedicated to the sacred memory of Abraham Lincoln". .Please see scans to determine condition.
